The First Law
An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by a net force. An object in motion will continue in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line unless acted upon by a net force.
The Second Law
Once an object does experience a net force (see the first law) it must experience an acceleration. That acceleration will be directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force that causes it and in the same direction as that force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object accelerated.
The Third Law
Whenever one object exerts an action force against a second object, the second object will exert a reaction force back against the first object and that reaction force will be equal in magnitude to the action force but opposite in direction.
Take care: when determining the acceleration of an object that occurs due to forces that follow from third law analysis it is important to remind yourself that the forces that accelerate an object are the sum of only those forces exerted on the object and are unaffected by forces exerted by the object.
