Vector quantities include any that require both magnitude (size) and direction to fully characterize. In contrast, a vector is an arrow drawn on paper to represent a vector quantity. Vectors must be drawn to scale and with an orientation that indicates direction.
For example: If two displacement vectors, one of 5 meters east and the other of 10 meters north are drawn on the same piece of paper, the vector indicating north will be twice as long as that indicating east. The two vectors must be a right angles to each other and by convention, the north vector will point to the top of the page and the east vector to the right margin.
